HANOVER, Germany (Sept. 23, 2008) — Michelin launched its energy-saving truck tire, the Michelin X Energy SaverGreen, at the IAA fair in Hanover.
Michelin said the tire reduces greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 2.5 metric tons over the tire's initial life while improving safety with increased grip.
Most truck tires have treads which use a high proportion of natural rubber, and this has not, up until now, been possible to turn into a low-rolling resistance compound, Michelin said.
The tire maker said some of the improvement is because of a carcass design involving lighter, thinner components, more flexible steelcord in the carcass and new compounds. The design is set to become the standard for Michelin's truck tires.
