HANOVER, Germany (Sept. 23, 2008) — Michelin launched its energy-saving truck tire, the Michelin X Energy SaverGreen, at the IAA fair in Hanover.
Michelin said the tire reduces greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 2.5 metric tons over the tire´s initial life while improving safety with increased grip.
Most truck tires have treads which use a high proportion of natural rubber, and this has not, up until now, been possible to turn into a low-rolling resistance compound, Michelin said.
The tire maker said some of the improvement is because of a carcass design involving lighter, thinner components, more flexible steelcord in the carcass and new compounds. The design is set to become the standard for Michelin´s truck tires.
