NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 19, 2008) — Bridgestone/Firestone's emergency response team has traveled to Orange, Texas, to help assist with relief and cleanup efforts following Hurricane Ike.
The Bridgestone Americas Emergency Response Team and team leader Ernie are focused on assisting employees at the tire maker's Firestone Polymers plant in Orange that was damaged by flooding and high winds. The company said workers are trying to get the plant back online as quickly as possible.
“While the focus of our BERT initiatives has always been to support emergency first responders, this effort is a bit unique,” said Chuck Tarver, a BERT leader. “We are actually relieving some of the burden to area first responders by helping our own teammates at our facility. In supporting our own family and business operations we are hopeful that we can get the Firestone Polymers plant back in operation shortly.”
BERT was formed after hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
