AKRON (Aug. 14, 2008) — ExxonMobil Chemical Co. said it will cut some jobs at its Advanced Elastomer Systems headquarters in Akron to keep its specialty elastomers business competitive.
The company said in a statement that “the number of separated employees will be less than 25, and the company continues to place as many individuals as possible at other ExxonMobil locations.”
Advanced Elastomers Systems currently employs about 190 at the location, and the firm didn't say when the cuts would take place. The thermoplastic elastomers producer, known for producing its Santoprene-brand thermoplastic vulcanizate material, previously was a joint venture with Solutia Inc. until ExxonMobil took full ownership in 2002.
“Akron remains an important location for the company's specialty elastomers business, and ExxonMobil is committed to being a leader in the thermoplastic elastomer and EPDM industries,” the firm said.
