The multi parameter system latex offers the challenge to develop tailor made products for very different fields of application. Namely, the huge variety of the emulsion polymerization process allows improving or replacing existing products and technologies. The key for the success is the know how to correlate all the process- and recipe parameters with the property profile of the final articles. Focussing on dipping applications, the development of products with “rubberlike” (soft) physical film properties and with outstanding solvent– and abrasion resistance is possible. Additionally, a high quality consistence and a low VOC level can be realized. Due to the synthetic nature of this tailor made products, the products do not have the protein allergy problem, generally associated with natural rubber. This paper is highlighting new approaches combining a simplified glove processing with attractive new product features and cost saving options. Following the idea of raw material savings without compromising on the glove quality by means of physical performance a new X-NBR latex system for thin soft and strong gloves will be presented. Taking the big process impact of the vulcanization in consideration, the second focus is on an alternative vulcanization option leading to an increased flexibility of the vulcanization and a very easy compounding in combination with attractive product features like clean, sulfur- and accelerator free gloves, with good solvent resistance. The dipping process, as well as typical properties of the final articles will be discussed.
