FRANKFURT, Germany (July 10, 2008) – Evonik Industries A.G.'s inorganic pigment unit is considering entering a joint venture to build a thermal carbon black plant at a gas field in Inta, Russia.
Evonik and Russia's Synttech Group signed a letter of intent on June 30, and now are examining the financial and technical feasibility of such a venture, Evonik said. If it comes to fruition, a 20,000 metric ton capacity plant using natural gas to produce thermal plants would be built, using Evonik technology.
The thermal black produced at the site would be used primarily in the manufacture of mechanical rubber goods.
