QUINCY, Ill. (June 30, 2008) — Titan Tire Corp. plans to make a multimillion dollar investment to add 10 new 130-inch curing presses at plants in the U.S. to meet growing demand for radial farm tires.
The subsidiary of Titan International Inc. said it will install the presses during the next eight months, and if needed, add 10 more in the second quarter of 2009. The company didn't say which plants will get the presses. It makes farm tires at factories in Freeport, Ill., and Des Moines, Iowa.
Maurice Taylor, Titan chairman and CEO, said the firm is increasing capacity because it promised major customers there should be no shortages of radials, and tire sizes will continue to grow.
He said the presses will be American-made, by an undisclosed company, and are believed to be the first 130-inch presses made in the U.S.
