LEXINGTON, S.C. (June 20, 2008) — Michelin North America Inc. said it will spend $90 million to upgrade equipment and expand production capacity at its Lexington passenger and off-the-road tire operations.
The investment follows the announcement in August 2007 of a $350 million in investments in Michelin's South Carolina facilities, including $110 million at the two Lexington plants, one which makes passenger and light truck tires, the other earthmover tires. Michelin said it has invested more than $900 million at the site since 1981.
The two plants combined employ 1,700. Michelin didn't say if the new project will increase that number.
The expansion projects are under way, the company said.
