SAN LUIS POTOSI, Mexico (June 5, 2008) — ContiTech Vibration Control has opened a production site in San Luis Potosi that it said will lead to the ability to equip up to 560,000 vehicles with engine mounts per year by 2012.
ContiTech said it will invest about $12 million in production facilities, infrastructure and information technology. This will be on top of $8.1 million in tool investments, of which some cost will be picked up by customers.
The facility, which will primarily supply to General Motors NAFTA-region plants, is being added to in stages and will begin production of engine mounts for automotive original equipment in February 2009.
The first phase of construction will include a 41,000-sq.-ft. area for hydro bushings and hydromounts. The second phase will be implemented in 2009 with 36,600 square feet being added for plastic mounts. The total production area will grow an estimated 110,000 square feet by 2012.
The plant is expected to have a work force of about 150 by 2012, the company said.
