CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 3, 2008) — Continental Tire North America Inc. has pledged to convert nearly all of its shipping logistics to certified carriers by 2011 through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay Transport Partnership.
The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a collaboration between the EPA and the freight industry to increase energy efficiency while reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution, Conti said.
By 2012 the SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to cut diesel fuel consumption by between 3.3 billion and 6.6 billion gallons per year, the equivalent to taking about 12 million cars off the road. These savings translate to nearly $10 billion saved for companies delivering freight in the U.S., Conti said.
