WASHINGTON (June 2, 2008) — Old, worn-out or underinflated tires can prove dangerous in hot weather driving, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned motorists at the beginning of the summer driving season.
Hot weather and overloaded vehicles increase the risk of catastrophic failures of old, worn or underinflated tires while on the road in summer, said NHTSA Administrator Nicole Nason.
Nason urged drivers to check not only the tires mounted on their vehicles, but also their spare tires before embarking on trips.
