WASHINGTON (May 29, 2008) — The Rubber Manufacturers Association has named Charles A. Cannon as its president and CEO.
Cannon, previously president of the trade association consulting firm Cannon Consultants Inc., has been the association's interim president since last February.
Cannon started in Washington on the staff of the House Appropriations Committee, followed by several years in the Washington office of United Technologies. At Cannon Consultants, he represented diverse interests including Los Alamos National Laboratory, the National Audubon Society and the California Energy Commission.
“We are adamant in our belief that the tire and rubber industry needs to be prepared for January 2009 and beyond,” said James MacMaster, chairman of the RMA Board of Directors and Yokohama Tire Corp. executive vice president, Business Division. “For that reason, the RMA Executive Committee is in agreement that Charlie Cannon is clearly the right person to be the RMA CEO.”
Cannon succeeds Donald B. Shea, who left the RMA to pursue other interests.
