HANOVER, Germany (May 21, 2008) — ContiTech A.G. is building a plant for rubber goods in Changshu, China, that will produce hose, air springs and vibration control products.
Conti is budgeting $47 million for the project's initial phase, which should be on stream by year-end 2009.
ContiTech is planning to group the Chinese production locations of the business units Fluid Technology (hoses), Air Spring Systems (air suspension systems) and Vibration Control (engine mounting systems) at the site.
In a second phase, the Air Spring Systems and Fluid Technology units are to be expanded, and the Power Transmission Group (drive belts) and Elastomer Coatings (diaphragms, printing blankets) will be located at the new facility by 2011.
Plans are for some 200 employees to be at work at the location year-end 2009, and in the long term the work force will be about 1,000.
