FINDLAY, Ohio (May 16, 2008) — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. plans to close three distribution centers and replace them with two facilities in Allentown, Pa., and Indianapolis, over the next three years.
The facilities set to close are in Moraine, Ohio, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dayton, N.J.
“A network analysis indicates opportunities for cost savings by consolidation of facilities and also to provide exceptional service to our customers,” a Cooper spokeswoman said.
The tire maker has six regional and four plant distribution centers in the U.S.
The company would not divulge the size of the targeted centers but said the overall footprint of the two new facilities would be “slightly smaller.” Employment at the two new centers is expected to match closely those of the three warehouses. Some employees will relocate and other will be offered a separation package, the company said.
