EAST LANSING, Mich. (May 14, 2008) — For the 30th year, the West Michigan Rubber Group's members will be heading out on Lake Michigan to catch salmon and trout for a good cause.
The annual WMRG Fishing Derby will take place May 28, leaving the docks of the Holiday Inn in Grand Haven, Mich., at 6:30 a.m. At 9 a.m. the other part of the fundraiser—a golf outing at the Grand Haven Golf Club—will begin with a shotgun start, according to Mike Morrow of RL Hudson Co., a rubber group board member and its publicity director.
Proceeds from the outing are used for a variety of purposes, including funding scholarships for students from the Ferris State University Rubber Technology Program. Two years ago the WMRG—at the urging of director Dick Hupp of RL Consulting—sent a sizeable check to the Hurricane Katrina victims' fund. Hupp challenged other rubber groups to match the effort, which added significantly to the donations.
