ElringKlinger opens Indian unit
ElringKlinger has opened a factory in India, operated by subsidiary ElringKlinger Automotive Components (India) Pvt. Ltd.
ElringKlinger said it invested $7.9 million into the unit, which will manufacture gaskets for powertrain applications such as engines and transmissions, especially focused on newly developed low-emission gasoline as well as diesel engines.
The plant is located in Ranjangaon, in direct proximity to the production locations of various vehicle manufacturers, the company said.
IISRP publishes SR manual
The International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers has published the 17th edition of its Synthetic Rubber Manual, a comprehensive source of SR product grade information.
The 128-page book includes information on more than 2,000 individual polymers, elastomers and latices manufactured globally, has more than 50 tables and includes quality and technical specifications. The book is available from the IISRP at www.iisrp.com.
Rohm and Haas completes purchase
Rohm and Haas Co. has completed the acquisition of OY Forcit A.B.'s polymer dispersions division for about $85 million.
The unit, Finndisp, makes water-based emulsions for paints, coatings, lacquers and adhesives.
The purchase includes a plant in Hanko, Finland, and another under construction in Ramenskoye, Russia, near Moscow.
Garlock receives honor
Garlock Sealing Technologies was honored by the Rochester Business Journal for its environmental leadership in the area of environmental innovation.
The journal cited Garlock's investment of more than $3 million to replace a volatile organic compound used in gasket production at its Palmyra, N.Y., plant with a more environmentally friendly material that reduces air emissions and creates a healthier work environment.
Firms promote chemical safety
Mallinckrodt Baker Inc. and Ansell Healthcare have teamed up to promote safety in chemical handling and storage.
The companies said they can provide reference tools and guidelines-including safety training and literature-for managing the chemicals a laboratory technician works with on a daily basis. Future plans include enhancing the firms' databases to offer 24/7 support.
Hankook opens distribution center
Hankook Tire America Corp. has added a distribution center in Aurora, Ill., near Chicago, the firm's sixth in the U.S.
The warehouse will service Hankook dealers throughout the Midwest who previously dealt with distribution centers in Tennessee and New Jersey.
Trelleborg acquires part of firm
Trelleborg A.B. has acquired 40 percent of Denmark-based Hetag Takdaekning A.S.'s roofing contract operations, including its subsidiaries.
The operations, purchased through the Trelleborg Engineered Systems business unit, employ 125 and produce annual sales of about $50 million, which will strengthen Trelleborg's position in the Danish roofing market, the firm said.
The firm didn't disclose what it paid for the business.
The roofing contractor companies will be operated as joint ventures between Trelleborg and current local management, according to Trelleborg.
