WASHINGTON (April 7, 2008) — Four private brand marketers are recalling small lots of light-truck tires made by Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., in conjunction with a broader Cooper recall.
Also, Bridgestone/Firestone voluntarily is recalling 143 Bridgestone V-Steel G-Traction 24R21 truck tires made during March 2007 and October 2007, according to a defects report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The tires didn't meet the endurance requirements of federal truck tire safety standards.
The marketers of Cooper-made tires—TBC Corp., American Car Care Centers Inc., Sure Tire Co. and Nokian Tyres Inc.—said they will work with Cooper in the recall of the Load Range E and size LT265/75R16, that can develop component separations in the lower sidewalls that in turn can lead to tire failures and accidents.
Cooper announced a recall March 28 of 48,037 light truck tires made between Dec. 9, 2007 and Feb. 2, 2008.
