WASHINGTON (April 7, 2008) — Four private brand marketers are joining forces with Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. to help recall small lots of Cooper-made light truck tires sold under various names.
In addition, Bridgestone/Firestone is voluntarily recalling 143 Bridgestone V-Steel G-Traction 24R21 truck tires manufactured during March 2007 and October 2007, according to a defects report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These tires, BFS told NHTSA, fail to meet the endurance requirements of federal truck tire safety standards.
As for the Cooper-made tires, four companies—TBC Corp., American Car Care Centers Inc., Sure Tire Co. and Nokian Tyres Inc.—said they will work with Cooper in the recall of the light truck tires, all Load Range E and size LT265/75R16, that can develop component separations in the lower sidewalls that in turn can lead to tire failures and accidents.
Cooper announced a recall March 28 of 48,037 light truck tires made between Dec. 9, 2007 and Feb. 2, 2008.
The private brands companies' recalls are: Nokian Tyres, 931 Nokian/Vatiiva tires; TBC, 17,014 tires sold as Big O A/T Bigfoot, Jetzon Revenger A/T, El Dorado ZTR Sport LT, Telstar Turbostar A/T, Laramie Performer A/T and TBC Stampede Radial XTX Sport, Wild Country Radial XTX Sport and Wild Trac Radial LTR+II; ACCC, 1,018 American Prospector tires; and Sure Tire, 295 Summit Trail Climber AT tires.
In each case the companies in question will replaced the affected tires for free.
