MINWORTH, England (March 27, 2008) — Trelleborg Industrial Profiles said it will halt production at its West Midlands, England, plant by the end of the year, eliminating 55 jobs.
The facility at Birmingham, Minworth, will become the sales and logistics center to support the Trelleborg flexible profiles business in the United Kingdom and Irish markets. However, up to 55 jobs will be axed from the work force of 70.
The six extrusion lines at Minworth will be transferred to Trelleborg sites in Germany, Sweden and possibly Poland.
The plan follows Trelleborg's closure last year of its complementary activity in Telford, formerly known as DJ Profiles.
Plant manager Bruce Grant said the flexible profiles business at Minworth has sales of $19 million. Discussions with the Minworth staff over the decision to cease manufacture are under way. The work force is not represented by a trade union.
