MCINTYRE, Ga. (March 26, 2008) — BASF Corp. said it is implementing a variety of energy-saving projects to cut its annual energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions at its McIntyre kaolin clay mine and processing plant.
The company said it will invest as much as $10 million to reduce energy use by 1,322 billion BTUs and cut greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 130,000 tons per year of CO2 equivalents at the facility. BASF kaolin is used in the rubber industry as extender pigments to increase strength and durability, improve dispersion, provide electrical, chemical and moisture resistance and other properties to a wide range of products.
The first phase of the project will be completed this year, the firm said.
