WASHINGTON (Feb. 28, 2008) — Nearly 88 percent of tire repairs are performed incorrectly, according to a review of more than 14,000 scrap tires made by the Rubber Manufacturers Association.
About 17 percent of the scrap tires studied had some kind of repair, but 12 percent of those had been done according to industry guidelines, the RMA said.
The association urged tire dealers and automotive repairers to consult the RMA's tire safety Web site, www.betiresmart.org.
