PRAGUE, Czech Republic (Feb. 26, 2008) — Coda Development is offering a system that uses rolling energy to inflate a tire.
The system uses a tube in the tire's body to increase the pressure of atmospheric air to increase pressure within the tire. The Prague-based company describes the system as the self-inflating tire.
When the chamber is compressed against the road, it pressurizes the air in a chamber. As the contact patch rolls around the tire, it moves low-pressure air around the pipe and eventually dispenses high-pressure air into the tire.
A tire will be displayed at Coda's booth April 14-17 at the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress in Detroit.
