LEVERKUSEN, Germany (Feb. 14, 2008) — Bayer MaterialScience plans to extend its portfolio for thermoplastic polyurethane molded skins with the purchase of TPU-related intellectual property rights from Collins & Aikman Corp.
Financial details of the transaction weren´t disclosed.
Bayer MaterialScience said C&A´s TPU size-reduction technologies were a factor in the decision to buy. TPU grades produced using the size-reduction method are used in slush molding, a technique in which Bayer MaterialScience holds patents.
BMS said it now is looking to offer TPU products in the form of a colored powder that exactly matches the interior colors specified by the original equipment manufacturer.
