AKRON (Feb. 12, 2008) — Stephen Cheng, dean of the University of Akron´s College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
The global group of 2,421 accomplished engineers in business, academia and government said it elected Cheng for his work in the development of materials for liquid crystal displays and the elucidation of structure-property relationships in polymeric materials.
Cheng, also professor of polymer science at the university, joined UA in 1987 as assistant professor of polymer science.
Cheng is the second dean of UA´s polymer college, succeeding Frank N. Kelley last June.
