FAIRLAWN, Ohio (Feb. 4, 2008) — Omnova Solutions Inc. said it is eliminating about 50 million wet pounds of annual latex capacity at its Mogadore, Ohio, plant.
Production will be consolidated into available capacity in Mogadore and other Omnova latex facilities. Employment at the plant will not be affected because the work force was reduced 20 percent in the past three years by natural attrition.
"The reduction in capacity at our largest latex facility reflects Omnova´s commitment to aggressively manage capacity in order to improve margins and more effectively match market demand," said Jim Hohman, president of Omnova´s performance chemicals business. "Omnova Solutions remains committed to providing our latex customers with innovative products and excellent service and value."
Omnova makes GenTac-brand vinylpyridine latex products and styrene-butadiene latices for carpet backings in Mogadore. It makes latices for styrene-butadiene paper coatings under the GenFlo name, but does not specify where these products are made.
