KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Jan. 17, 2008) — Production of natural rubber in Malaysia in November was 96,600 metric tons, 3.8 percent down from the same period in 2006. In the first 11 months, the country produced 1.11 million metric tons of rubber.
Imports, especially of latex concentrate continued to boom, reaching 59,400 metric tons, 44 percent more compared to the same month in 2006. The country exported 86,800 metric tons, up by 3 percent from the year-ago figure.
Domestic consumption, at 39,100 metric tons was up by 21 percent on the same month last year, while stocks stood at 156,400 metric tons, down by 20 percent on the stocks held in November 2006.
