The end use requirements for charged air cooler hoses (turbocharger hoses) are changing as the temperature requirements have increased and the life expectancy has also increased. Ethylene Acrylic elastomers (AEM) have been developed with better high temperature properties and hoses made from the new polymers-meet-the-end-use performance requirements of many OEMs. When the temperature requirements call for performance at 185°C and higher, fluoroelastomers (FKM) are often used. One hose construction uses an FKM inner layer with a silicone cover. Advances in FKM polymers and compounds have led to easier processing of the FKM layer and better adhesion between the FKM inside layer and the silicone cover even after heat aging.
