The boiler is an integral part of the tire manufacturing process, supplying steam for several manufacturing steps. Steam production reliability is as critical as any other key process component, and good water treatment is important to maintaining reliable steam production. Traditionally in the tire manufacturing process, there are several process related steam demands that can make responsive water treatment a challenge. Recently there have been some new developments to help make it easier for the tire steam plant operations staff to maintain consistent, proactive boiler feedwater treatment. The paper reviews the current state of boiler water chemistry control as well as two new technologies. A case study from a tire manufacturing facility utilizing these new technologies is presented, along with before and after data comparisons and ROI assessment.
