QUEBEC CITY, Quebec (Dec. 21, 2007) — The province of Quebec has issued a law requiring all passenger vehicles, taxis and rental cars with Quebec license plates to put on a full set of four snow tires between Nov. 15 and April 1, beginning in fall 2008.
Transport Quebec, the province's transportation agency, said that 90 percent of Quebec residents already use four snow tires in the winter, but the agency wanted that figure to be 100 percent as a winter safety measure.
A spokesman for Transport Quebec said he had no idea whether Transport Canada, the national transportation agency, or any other provincial agency planned to issue a similar law.
Representatives of Transport Canada could not be reached for comment, but the Transport Canada Web site urges motorists to use four snow tires during the winter.
