TOKYO-Bridgestone Corp. will supply 20-inch, Y-rated Potenza run-flat tires as standard equipment on the all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R sports car, set to launch in June.
The tires have reinforced sidewalls to support the vehicle in case of a loss of air pressure. Bridgestone said the highly rigid structure of the Bridgestone Potenza RE070R RFT has been tuned specifically for the Nissan GT-R, and the tire´s new tread design offers good handling in both wet and dry conditions.
These features offer performance that is ideal for the enthusiast wishing to drive on the race track, Bridgestone said. The GT-R uses 255/40ZRF20 97Y on the front wheels and 285/35ZRF20 100Y on the rear.
The four-seat GT-R features a 480-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 driven through a dual-clutch six-speed transmission.
The Tokyo-based tire maker has developed winter tires for the same application.
Nissan also will offer a Dunlop all-season run-flat tire as an optional fitment, 255/40R20 front and 285/35R20 rear, according to the car maker´s Web site.
The car is expected to sell in the low $70,000 range, according to AutoWeek magazine, a sister publication of Rubber & Plastics News.
