MIDLAND, Mich. (Nov. 29, 2007) — Dow Chemical Co. plans to expand its plant at Correggio, Italy, in a move aimed at positioning the site as Dow's global research and development center for polyurethane systems formulation and application technology.
The company said it also plans to increase production capacity of the Dow Building Solutions plant, which makes Styrofoam brand insulation products, by 30 percent, and to optimize the site's formulated polyurethane systems manufacturing operation, targeting improvements in productivity and logistics.
The firm will spend about $20 million on the expansion, which is subject to government and regulatory approvals. The project is scheduled for completion in 2009.
The expansion supports Dow's strategy to drive growth in its Performance portfolio aligning its research and development effort with customer needs and strengthening its position in key markets around the globe, the company said.
