LEVERKUSEN, Germany (Nov. 28 2007) — Bayer A.G. has licensed Dow Chemical Co. to produce polyether polyols using Bayer´s Impact technology.
The technology incorporates an advantageous process for polyoxyalkylation, using a special double metal cyanide as a catalyst, Bayer said.
The technology enhances the consistency of polyether polyols and provides waste reduction advantages in the manufacturing process, Bayer and Dow Chemical said in a joint statement. The terms of the deal weren´t disclosed.
The technology allows Dow Chemical to use a continuous process to produce long-chain polyether polyols — the base products for flexible polyurethane slabstock foams.
Dow Chemical said it is evaluating a world-scale production facility based on the technology, with start up in 2010. The company expects to have premarketing volumes of the products available before then.
