GURGAON, India (Nov. 27, 2007) — India's Apollo Tyres Ltd. is planning a week of HIV-AIDS awareness activities at its plants and clinics to commemorate the United Nations-sponsored World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.
The events range from a "Condom Man" passing out information at the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Center in Nagar, to a mobile poster exhibition, audio-visual presentations, quizzes and games, all designed to promote awareness.
The company said the programs at its plants are aimed at employee education, while the events at the clinics — which are located at major truck stops throughout the nation — are intended to reach the wider audience of the local community.
HIV-AIDS often is spread throughout India via independent truckers, who are primary customers of Apollo. The Indian tire maker has adopted the awareness and prevention programs as one of its major social efforts.
