SHANGHAI, China (Nov. 20, 2007) — Rhodia S.A. said it plans to build a plant in Qingdao, China, that will produce high-performance silica used in low-rolling-resistance tires.
The company, which operates another silica factory in Qingdao, said the world-scale facility will use a modular design that will enable it to be easily expanded as the market grows. The firm didn't disclose the cost of the project.
The new plant will help Rhodia meet rapidly growing demand in the Asian region, said Rhodia CEO Jean- Pierre Clamadieu.
Rhodia currently operates seven precipitated silica plants around in the U.S., France, Italy, Venezuela, Brazil, South Korea and China
