LONDON (Nov. 6, 2007) — Total world rubber consumption in 2020 will be 31.3 million metric tons, down 200,000 from forecasts made earlier this year, according to the latest figures from the International Rubber Study Group.
Continuing high oil costs, plus a projected high availability of natural rubber, led the IRSG to reduce its estimates of synthetic rubber consumption for that year, according to an IRSG statement.
The IRSG updates its comprehensive forecasts for the rubber, tire and vehicle sectors in September and October of every year.
The new reports are available free to IRSG member governments and the organization's Panel of Associates. They are available for download at www.rubberstudy.com.
