NEW YORK (Nov. 1, 2007) — Michelin has established "Green Meters" on the stock market boards of four major cities to demonstrate the success of its ongoing environmental program.
The Green Meters in New York, Paris, Berlin and Shanghai, China, will measure success in terms of gallons of fuel and tons of carbon dioxide emissions saved since 1992.
Since its introduction last year in the U.S., the Michelin X One wide single truck tire alone has saved 15 million gallons of fuel and reduced CO2 emissions by more than 165,000 tons, according to Jim Micali, chairman and president of Michelin North America Inc.
The Green Meters are emblematic of Michelin's ongoing pledge to make its tires safer, more energy-saving and more environmentally friendly, Micali said.
The company pledged to double treadwear life, reduce rolling resistance by an extra 50 percent and substantially reduce braking distance to enhance safety.
