GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 2) — Michelin North America Inc. has phased out bias-ply BFGoodrich agricultural tires and instead will offer customers BFG radials as a "value-priced" replacement tire option.
The firm said last year bias-ply products accounted for only about 10 percent of its North American business.
The company will continue to produce and market a full line of BFG and Michelin radial farm tires.
"Our goal is to offer customers advanced tire technologies and exceptional support to help improve their field productivity, operating efficiency and ultimately their profitability," said Bill Schafer, vice president of marketing and sales. "We believe that a radial-only offering is the best way to do that."
Radial tires, which comprise more than 30 percent of the agricultural tire market, continue to gain popularity due to the rise of larger, more powerful machines, the firm said. It added that radial technology offers benefits such as greater load-carrying capacity, increased productivity, reduced soil compaction and higher yields, the firm said.
