VIDALIA, La. (June 11) — A tire recycling plant set to begin construction in Vidalia by the end of June will employ 60 to 65 workers when completed in six to eight months, according to Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland.
The company, Louisiana Elastomer, said the facility will transform used tires into nearly virgin rubber for use in manufacturing tires, athletic footwear, auto parts and other rubber goods. Within three years, the plant will employ 135-140, Copeland said. The $10 million to build the facility was three-quarters financed, with the rest coming from local, state and federal incentives.
Officials of Louisiana Elastomer could not be reached for comment.
