AKRON (May 31) — Boeing Commercial Airplanes has awarded Goodyear an exclusive six-year contract to supply original equipment aviation tires for the Boeing Next-Generation 737 family of aircraft.
The tire maker didn't disclose the value of the contract, but a spokesman said it will be substantial because of the large number of planes in the fleet.
Goodyear will supply the aircraft with Flight Leader and Flight Radial tires for the 737 nose gear and Flight Leader tires for the main gear. The tires offer low operating cost-per-landing, the firm said.
The contract is significant because of the importance of Boeing 737 aircraft in the world's airline fleets, said Pierre Jambon, general manager for Goodyear global aviation tires.
"Because of Goodyear´s global footprint, this supply arrangement also allows us to expand our position with replacement tires and tire services," he said.
Goodyear manufactures aviation tires in Danville, Va., Bangkok, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
