LEVERKUSEN, Germany (May 30) — Lanxess A.G. is planning to build a rubber research center in Qingdao, China, which it expects to open early in 2008.
The company said the facility will cost several million euros to build, and it will be located close to the Qingdao University of Science and Technology´s National Key Laboratory for Rubber and Plastics. Lanxess said 80 percent of China´s rubber engineers study at the university and more than 60 percent of the country´s rubber industry is based in and around the city.
The German supplier said it initially will have 10 researchers at the center with plans to increase that number in the future. They will concentrate on developing new products and applications as well as continuing to develop existing applications.
