FAIRLAWN, Ohio (May 17) — Union workers at Omnova Solutions Inc.´s wallcoverings and upholstery plant in Columbus, Miss., have ratified a new three-year contract.
Members of United Steelworkers Local 748-L approved the deal May 16, the company said. The USW represents about 260 of the 400 employees in Columbus.
Robert Coleman, president of Omnova´s Decorative Products business unit, commended the Steelworkers union for its willingness to work with the company to address the issues critical to the Columbus plant´s future.
"This contract will help Omnova to be competitive in a very challenging marketplace while continuing to provide excellent jobs, with very good wages and benefits, for employees, their families and the Columbus community," Coleman said.
The plant has been in operation for more than 40 years, making products for the commercial wallcovering and coated fabrics industries, Omnova said. The Fairlawn-based company produces emulsion polymers, specialty chemicals and decorative and functional surfaces for a variety of commercial, industrial and residential end uses.
