BRUSSELS, Belgium (May 16) — The European Commission said its new investigation into an alleged polychloroprene rubber cartel isn´t linked to a U.S. probe two years ago.
That price-fixing investigation resulted in an $80 million fine for DuPont Dow Elastomers L.L.C., the joint venture of Dow Chemical Co. and DuPont that since then has dissolved.
The alleged time period and infringement is different to that of two years ago, an EC spokeswoman said.
The official declined to name any of the companies involved or other details. "Each investigation is individual and therefore, the time which it will take, cannot be estimated," she said.
The EC said it won´t comment further until it receives a response from the companies that are targeted in the investigation.
