NODIA, India (May 15) — Motherson Sumi Systems Inc. has agreed to buy Australian rubber mixer and extruded products maker Empire Rubber for an undisclosed amount from Huon Corp. Pty. Ltd., which is being liquidated.
The company said the deal through its subsidiaries, Motherson Elastomers Pty. Ltd. and Motherson Investments Pty. Ltd., will bring the Indian company the business and assets of Empire Rubber, based in Bendigo, Victoria, and 100 employees.
Empire Rubber is a supplier of automotive original equipment manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers including non-automotive customers, Motherson Sumi said, generating annual sales of about $29.2 million. That will strengthen Motherson´s position as a full systems supplier to the OEMs, the firm said.
Motherson said the deal is subject to the approval of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission. Huon acquired Empire Rubber and two other businesses in January 2006 from Nylex Ltd., but by October was in liquidation.
