WASHINGTON (March 30) — James F. Ports Jr. has been named deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to serve under Administrator Nicole R. Nason. Ports comes to NHTSA from the Maryland Department of Transportation, where he served first as assistant secretary of transportation and then as deputy secretary. He also is a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates and the former supervisor of industrial and commercial gas field operations for the Baltimore Gas & Electric Co.
