AKRON (March 20) — Three Midwestern rubber groups that are affiliates of the ACS Rubber Division have taken steps to merge into one organization.
The directors of the Central Illinois Rubber & Plastics Group, the Chicago Rubber Group and the Wisconsin Rubber Group have decided to move ahead with merger plans, they said. The three groups are forming transition teams to handle details of a merger, develop a timetable and work with the Rubber Division — of which they officially are subdivisions — to make the change.
The groups tentatively expect the merger to be concluded in 2008. The transition teams will suggest a new name and make recommendations about a technical program and golf format.
The proposed merger is the latest of several changes by rubber groups in response to shifts in rubber industry demographics, which has caused membership declines. The Akron and Northeast Ohio rubber groups merged in 2005, the Philadelphia and New York groups merged and became the Mid-Atlantic Rubber & Plastic Group.
