WEMBLEY, England (March 16) — The International Rubber Study Group will move its headquarters to Singapore to be closer to the "center of mass" of the rubber industry.
Starting June 2008, the IRSG Secretariat will be situated at Peninsula Plaza, Coleman Street, Singapore.
In addition to the desire to be closer to the core of the rubber industry, the organization is concerned that some regulations in the United Kingdom do not give employees of international organizations full immunity from UK local laws, said IRSG Secretary-General Hidde Smit.
The group also said being based in England meant the staff faced a heavy travel schedule between Europe and Asia. Smit said that not all IRSG staff will choose to relocate when the organization moves, so there will be some staff changes associated with the move, but gave no further details.
