CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 7) — The National Labor Relations Board has dismissed the United Steelworkers´ unfair labor practices complaint against Continental Tire North America Inc.
The USW plans to appeal the decision by a regional office of the NLRB, which a spokesman characterized as "unfounded" based on previous NLRB complaints against Conti.
"This abrupt reversal in position is based on no additional facts and no change in law," the union spokesman said.
The USW´s charge filed last year related to negotiations over the firm´s plans to close its tire plant in Charlotte. Conti last April declared an impasse in negotiations and moved forward with its plans.
Conti said the NLRB Regional Director Willie Clark Jr. found there is insufficient evidence of a violation and no further proceedings are warranted.
The tire maker said the NLRB further found Conti didn´t violate any labor laws.
