DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Feb. 14) — Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. is enhancing its P Zero performance tire line with an ultra high-performance offering — dubbed P Zero the Hero — featuring some engineering developments designed to increase tire durability and reduce environmental impact.
The new range, aimed at the "supercar" category of high performance sports and luxury cars, is the culmination of two years of development and testing and features technical improvements covered by five patents, Pirelli said, as well as a distinctive tread pattern.
Pirelli launched the tire line at an event in Dubai.
The line "represents the state of the art of the P Zero collection," said Pirelli Tyre CEO Francesco Gori. "The new tire has been designed and developed to control the ever more extreme performance of supercars and to offer ever higher levels of driving satisfaction and safety for the most demanding drivers."
The tire´s new features include carcass cords made from a hybrid of aramid and nylon yarns, called HyCo, that increase tire durability; rubber compounds that are free of PAH aromatic oils; and the use of nano-composite fillers that Pirelli claims ensures consistent performance over the life of the tire.
The new P Zero version has obtained 15 homologations for use as original equipment on high-performance cars, including the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo, Audi R8 and S8, Aston Martin DB9, Maserati Quattroporte, Jaguar XK and Mercedes AMG.
