STOW, Ohio (Feb. 13) — DuPont Performance Elastomers' Akron Laboratory in Stow set an all-time DuPont workplace safety record with 60 years without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordable lost workday case.
Since 1946, the lab has recorded 4.4 million exposure hours with zero recordable lost workday injuries. The company held a ceremony at the site today to commemorate the honor.
·Safe operation of our facilities ensures we deliver on our commitments to customers, and this very significant milestone demonstrates that our goal of zero safety and environmental incidents is achievable and sustainable,ö said Diane Gulyas, group vice president for DuPont Performance Materials.
DuPont said the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics give a comparable recordable injury rate for workers in the synthetic rubber industry as 2.9 cases per 100 workers in 2005. Had the Stow site's performance been at the industry average, the firm said there would have been 64 injuries over a 60-year period.
