TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 2) — The Tire Industry Association has sent a letter to Florida State Sen. Victor Crist, R-Tampa, opposing his bill that would ban the use of retreads on most commercial vehicles in Florida.
"This kind of legislation, which would have a devastating impact on the retread industry, pops up occasionally across the country," Roy Littlefield, TIA executive vice president, said in a news release. "It´s just a question of educating the people involved. It doesn't take much to come to an understanding about the high quality of retreads."
Paul Fiore, TIA director of government and business affairs, said he hoped to meet with Sen. Crist when the association hosts its Commercial Tire, Retread & Recycling Conference in Tampa the week of Feb. 5. Other industry groups, such as the Tire Retread Information Bureau, also have expressed opposition to Sen. Crist's bill.
